Smokey Look for Hooded lids

Hello everyone,
I am often asked for eye makeup tips for hooded eyes/lids and i usually suggest things which i feel might work. We all can do our own eyes beautifully as we are well acquainted with our own features, but to actually know what works for different eye shapes we need to practise on other, so while my sister in law came to visit us i took full advantage of the oppurtunity and tried out this smokey look on her.

As her eyes are hooded and small i decided not to use dark black as it can make her eyes even smaller.

Tips for smokey look (hooded lids):
  • If your eyes are small and you wish to make it appear longer soft cat eye smokey look is what you should go in for.
  • To make your eyes look more prominent create a fake crease just above your natural crease.
  • If your lid space is big, blend your crease colour moving upward and use a shade lighter to your crease colour and blend well with your highlight and crease colour.
  • Make sure you blend your liner in the waterliner specially at the lower outer corner.
  • To make your eyes look even bigger replace black liner with white or flesh toned liner for your waterline.
So here is what we came up with

Here is the step by step tutorial

Explanation :

  1. Begin with primed lids, use NYX eyeshadow base
  2. Highlight your brow bone with a light skin toned eyeshadow
  3. I used a white shade only at the highest point (curve)
  4. Using a brown shade define your crease
  5. Blend the brown with a champagne shade
  6. Instead of black i used dark berry shade and applied on the outer corner
  7. Blend well and bring the colour to the outer 1/3 of the upper lashline
  8. Apply a taupe eyeshadow on the middle of the lid
  9. Lastly to highlight the inner corner i used a shimmery pink eyeshadow and white eyeshadow
To finish off the look i used white liner on the waterline and dark brown eyeshadow on the lower lashline (blended), apply mascara and you are done !
